Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences was conceived as an idea in 2011, to provide Medical Education to aspiring youth of Balochistan. The Institute was envisaged as a project to enhance medical training facilities in the region. Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta is the largest tertiary care hospital in the region and is affiliated hospital with QIMS. College of Nursing is added to QIMS which impart BSc nursing degree. Institute is recognized by PM&DC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council; a regulatory body for medical education in Pakistan) and listed in WHO directory of Medical colleges with accreditation by Foundation of Advancement in International Medical Education and Research.

  1. Admissions and Academics. Admissions are carried out purely on merit as per rules and regulations of PM&DC and are also approved by Board of Governors. 20 seats are subsidized divided equally in different divisions of Balochistan. 80% subsidy in tuition fee is given by GoB. Presently 498 students are studying in different classes. At present around 83 % students belong to Balochistan.
  2. Infrastructure Development. QIMS has been established in close vicinity of CMH Quetta and in fact various buildings vacated by CMH. Two phases of construction has been completed and 3rd phase is in progress.
  3. QIMS Complex. Most of the buildings of Medical College have been completed including Library, Labs, Museums and lecture halls. Auditorium is under construction by GoB, but at present construction has been stopped due to non release of funds. In future College of Nursing and College of Dentistry will be undertaken on availability of buildings by CMH Quetta.
  4. Boys Hostel. It is located near Askari Check Post. Accommodation is available with ability to expand. Presently 86 students are residing in the hostel. There is faculty mess situated in the same area. Master plan for faculty accommodation and student hostel has been prepared for future expansion. It will be requiring funds and has been planned in phases.
  5. Girls Hostel. 2 x huts and 2 x blocks of MOQs have been converted into girls’ hostel. It has limited accommodation. Presently 80 students are residing in the hostel. GoB sponsored construction of Girls Hostel in same area and ground floor has been completed. Construction has been stopped due to non availability of funds.
  6. Future Projects. Following projects are envisaged in future:-
  7. Dental College with 50 Dental Surgeons / year. Infrastructure Development will be through QIMS funds.
  8. Accommodation for senior and junior faculty.
  9. Construction of new hostel for boys accommodating 170 students.
  10. QIMS is in process to affiliate Frontier Corps Hospital (FCH) as second teaching hospital. This will help QIMS to increase its number of seat from 100 to 150.
  11. At present there is urgent requirement for self reliance in HR trained in Basic Medical Sciences as Post Graduate Institute in Balochistan is non functional. QIMS is ready to provide infrastructure and requisite facilities to start Post Graduate Studies Program in Balochistan.

In pursuance to provide quality medical education to aspiring youth of Balochistan, QIMS is contributing as educational Institute towards Balochistan in following manner:-

  1. Prime and capacious piece of land in the Cantt has been allocated to QIMS.
  2. Out of 100 seats, 73 seats are exclusively reserved for aspiring youth of Balochistan. At present 412 students belong to Balochistan out of 498 students, as any seat remaining vacant due to non availability of designated category (e.g. foreign seats) is shifted to open merit Balochistan.
  3. CMH Quetta is the affiliated hospital and is providing an excellent clinical faculty, well organized wards, advance medical equipments and tertiary care facilities.
  4. Fee structure is based on no profit and revenue generated by the college is being spent on the same students in shape of infrastructure development, state of the art facilities and one year salary for house jober’s. Fee structure is also lowest as compare to other private medical colleges.
  5. QIMS is also providing hostel facilities to 153 students (83 girls and 86 boys), mostly belonging to far flung areas of Balochistan.
  6. Co-curricular activities in shape of various festivals, sports gala and recreational visits are arranged to promote healthy environment. Cricket and football grounds as well as basketball, volleyball / net ball courts, tennis court and indoor badminton court are available for students.
  7. Study tour of 4th year students was arranged to Rawalpindi, Abbotabad and Murree. It provided great interactive and educative opportunity while visiting PMA Kakul, AFPGMI Rwp, MH Rwp, AM College Rwp, AFIC, AFIRM and other renowned institutions of Pakistan. Study tour will be arranged every year for 4th year class.
  8. After completion of MBBS, QIMS has sponsored and facilitated house job for QIMS graduates.
  9. Students of QIMS are being encouraged and facilitated to join Pakistan Army. Many students have already joined Pakistan Army in M Cadet Scheme.
  10. Various academic workshops and guest speaker lectures are arranged to widen the horizon of students.
  11. Research projects are undertaken by the students to inculcate scientific approach and research attitude among them. In this respect first undergraduate scientific symposium was held in June 2016, in which 9 research papers were read and presented by students of 3rd, 4th and final year. Second Undergraduate Scientific Symposium was held on 22nd May 2017 at Multipurpose Hall QIMS.
  12. Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences held its 1st Convocation on July 31, 2017 at Multipurpose Hall Quetta Club Limited. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Chancellor University of Balochistan and Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, accompanied by Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz, HI (M), Lt Gen (R) Javed Zia, Ex-Comdt SC, Surgeon General Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Asif Mumtaz Sukhera HI (M) and Vice Chancellor University of Balochistan Prof Dr Javed Iqbal.
  13. Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences will hold its 2nd Convocation on 8th August 2018 at Multipurpose Hall Quetta Club Limited. The Chief Guest of the occasion will be Chancellor University of Balochistan and Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, accompanied by Commander Sothern Command Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa, HI (M), Tbt, Surgeon General Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Zahid Hamid HI (M) and Vice Chancellor University of Balochistan Prof Dr Javed Iqbal.
