Description
Created by decree no 93/029 of 19th January 1993, the University of Dschang, emanated from the University reform of January 19th, 1993. It inherited the site, the resources and facilities of the former Dschang University Centre and former College Polyvalent Fotso Victor of Bandjoun. Thus, the University of Dschang is situated on the Western Highlands of Cameroon. Beyond the classic mission of any modern university which is teaching, research and outreach, the specific mission of the University of Dschang is to contribute to the development and promotion of a Cameroon and African agriculture that is efficient and dynamic, capable of sustaining a social and economic development process that is endogenous and durable. In addition to this specific mission in the agricultural sector of Cameroon economy, the University of Dschang should in the course of accomplishing its statutory mission contribute to higher training in the other domains and aspects of national life.
Bilingual with lectures offered in both French and English, the University of Dschang is present in six out of ten Regions in Cameroun. The institution has 6 faculties (Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences and 2 Schools (University Institute of Technology, Bandjoun and Institute of Fine Arts, Foumban. The institution of Dschang makes use of a relatively high number of visiting and part-time lecturers coming from the professional milieu. The latter contribute to translating into reality the government policy of ensuring that training at the university is more jobs oriented.
