Tan Tao University is a lifelong dream of Mme. Dang Thi Hoang Yen and has become a reality. On October 2, 2004, Tan Tao University started its construction by raising the elevation, developing infrastructure, roads, utilities to transform a flooded and blackish water areas to become TanTao University – the first Non-Profit private U.S style university in Vietnam.


It aspires to become a globally distinguished educational institution, providing excellence in education, while participating in the advancement of knowledge through research and serving the people of Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and the world.


With an educational philosophy, standards, and practices based on the American liberal arts model of higher education, Tan Tao University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to foster tolerance and respect for diversity and dialogue. It aspires to produce individuals committed to creative and critical thinking, life-long learning, personal integrity and civic responsibility, and leadership.

Tan Tao University use curricula designed by Rice University in the US. All TTU students are required to take ‘liberal arts’ courses which account for 25% of their academic programs. These courses include languages, culture, literature, civilizations, history, mathematics, economics, management, leadership skills and communications, mechanics and chemistry. Students take part in many extracurricular activities, clubs, seminars, talks, and soft skills shared by professors so that students can quickly adapt to the social reality.

Ed.Dr. Yen Dang is also Chair of the Vietnam-US Business Forum, Member of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEANBAC), and Member of World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on South-East Asia.

As the Founder and Chairwoman of Tan Tao Group, she has made it grow into the leading industrial park and infrastructure developer in Vietnam.

In 2002, Ed.Dr. Dang decided to go to the United States to learn about the American model of a non-profit liberal arts university. Thanks to this vision, she attracted well-known American professors with whom she founded Tan Tao University. In 2007, Ed.Dr. Dang returned to Vietnam and founded ITA Scholarship, ITA Medical Aid and ITA Veterans Assistance for the purpose of providing education, medical support and financial assistance to the needy in Vietnam. Apart from granting thousands of scholarships, Ed.Dr. Dang and her family are the major sponsors for development and construction of all facilities of Tan Tao University (TTU), the first Vietnamese University in the model of American liberal arts education.

Ed.Dr. Yen Dang has been awarded with numerous international and national prestigious prizes and merits, including the Top 100 ASEAN Talent and Virtuous Leader 2016, the ASEAN Excellent CEO Award 2014 & 2015, the Humanitarian Award 2011 by San Francisco – Ho Chi Minh City Sister City Committee, the Typical Vietnamese Entrepreneur Award (2008, 2009); the 2008 Golden Rose Award for outstanding business women with significant contribution to the national socioeconomic development as well as the development of Vietnamese business community, the 2007 Business Super Star Award for Vietnam’s outstanding entrepreneurs in international integration and competition.
