Description

The Paulista University, UNIP, recognized by Ordinance No. 550/88, began its activities on November 9, 1988. It was constituted from the Unified Paulista Institute, IUP, Instituto de Ensino de Engenharia Paulista, IEEP, and the Institute of Dentistry Paulista, IOP; the first of these, authorized to work in 1972, initially with the courses of Social Communication, Literature, Pedagogy and Psychology. In 2016, UNIP was relegated by MEC Ordinance No. 1,341 of 11/28/2016, published in the DOU on 11/29/2016.

In 2004, UNIP was accredited to offer higher education courses in Distance Education (EAD) by MEC Ordinance No. 3,633 dated November 9, 2004, published in the DOU on November 10, 2004, and recredited by MEC 03/02/2017, published in the DOU on 02/02/2017.

Today, due to the process of evolution, the UNIP, through a modern academic proposal, has been expanding its activities by several Campi, aiming at the preparation of highly qualified human resources demanded by the national development policy.

UNIP promotes the up-to-date training of students and their empowerment for a changing society through quality, technologically advanced and future-oriented education in the human, social, exact and health sciences. Its main purpose is to promote the development of students' potential, establishing conditions that allow an active insertion in the labor market and the creative solution of problems that society proposes.

The Brazilian reality, which deserves special attention on the part of the UNIP, also emphasizes postgraduate study programs. These are dedicated to the improvement of their own faculty as well as to the needs of the community in general, since, in addition to training professionals from all areas, to develop research that will generate scientific discoveries and technological innovations, UNIP proposes to meet the demands of the modern world.

Thus, the Paulista University has been recognized as an important center for the production of knowledge and its dissemination to a greater number of people, through teaching, research, extension and post-graduation activities.

Mission

The Paulista University - UNIP's mission is to become a center for the generation and diffusion of knowledge, articulating teaching, research and extension activities, in line with the demands of contemporary society and the world of work, respecting diversity and cultivating solidarity, inclusion, human values and ethics, aiming at the formation of qualified citizens who are potentially able to contribute to the socioeconomic development of their region of influence.

Pursuant to Article 3 of its Statutes and Article 2 of its General Rules of Procedure, the purpose of the University of São Paulo (UNIP) is to:

to promote Teaching, Research and Extension for the cultivation of knowledge in the fields of Philosophy, Sciences, Letters, Arts and Techniques, and its application in the service of the progress of the community and the human person;

to contribute to the general and technical training of the community by preparing liberal professionals and qualified specialists in the different fields of knowledge as well as the training of technicians of higher education;

to act in the process of development of the community that lives in its area of influence and influence;

contribute to the strengthening of solidarity between men;

to collaborate in the country's development effort, articulating with the public authorities and with the private initiative, to study problems at the regional and national levels;

participate, through the promotion of cultural initiatives and the provision of technical assistance services, in solving community problems.

According to article 3 of its General Rules of Procedure, in order to achieve the proposed objectives, the Paulista University (UNIP) obeys the principles of respect for the dignity of the person and fundamental rights, proscribing any form of discrimination.

Goals

The Paulista University - UNIP has undergraduate education its main activity, developed by teachers aware of their social responsibilities in search of solutions to the problems that afflict the daily life of collectivities.

Technological and cultural development, as well as scientific progress, are based on the harmony and symbiosis existing between societies and universities, and the latter is attributed to the formation of the professional of the future. Aware of its responsibilities in the national context, UNIP is projected for the future by relying on some fundamental objectives:

to be a center for valuing the professional, preserving, specializing and improving the values that dignify him;

to promote an intense exchange of services and information with society, offering systematized knowledge and techniques and receiving, in return, information that realimente the activities of research and extension;

establish itself as an agent of transformation and thus contribute to human growth, in the intellectual, moral and material aspects;

to promote the integral formation of the graduated professionals of their courses, aiming to respond to the concerns and needs of the man and the contemporary society, with the accomplishment of activities of teaching and research that privilege the interdisciplinarity of the knowledge;

to use a teaching methodology and a conscious and effective graduation policy, often discussed with specialists and educators;

contribute to the implementation of a socioeconomic order founded on the sovereignty of peoples, on the dignity of the human person, on free initiative, on the values of ethics and on the pluralism of ideas;

providing quality education through integrated actions between institutes and higher administration, with strict monitoring of activities performed, improvement of human resources and improvement of the material conditions of campuses.

More than one million and two hundred thousand visits to the community.

UNIP manages an educational network of 14,795 computers with 254 fixed connection points.

The UNIP has a large data transmission antenna, images and sounds, located in a central point of the Capital allowing the communication via radio waves between all the campuses of Greater São Paulo.

Our internet reaches about three million users per month. In the period of selection process, we attend on average 70 candidates per day by means of scheduled tests, and, every six months, all our students carry out tests of all the disciplines in which they are enrolled from a bank of more than one hundred and sixty thousand exercises and managed issues on the internet. This collection is periodically updated and part of it is made available to students as online exercises.

With regard to research, we highlight:

The UNIP currently has 68 research groups registered in CNPq, covering the areas of Exact, Health, Human, Social and Legal Sciences;

UNIP supports programs to encourage teacher and student research, participation in national and international scientific meetings and incentives for publication;

UNIP researches are supported by development agencies - FAPESP, CAPES, CNPq - and are developed in collaboration with scientists from Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe, China and Japan. Among these, research on plants medicinal products of the Amazon, conducted by Dr. Drauzio Varella and collaborators; the research on gifted people led by Dr. Christina Cupertino, who represents Brazil in international associations on the subject; research in Production Engineering that generated patents and equipment for the use of disabled people; patent application by the Graduate Program in Environmental and Experimental Pathology for Emulsion formulated from the association of four vegetable oils aiming to improve the integrity and hydration of the skin of the elderly and formulations based on fixed, resinous and essential oils, used as active principles for the elaboration of oils, emulsions, creams, ointments, lotions, milks and gels for the treatment of aging of the skin and patent application by the Graduate Program in Dentistry for the process of making digital facial prostheses and composite dental restorative resin or high reactivity cements. Currently, 680 surveys are under development at UNIP.

The Paulista University - UNIP - in addition to the five Academic Master's Programs, has a Doctoral Program in Communication, Production Engineering, Environmental and Experimental Pathology and Dentistry.
