The Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia UNAD, is an Educational Project that belongs to the Ministry of National Education, with 36 years of trajectory and leading institution in providing educational services, with national and international coverage as one of the 32 Institutions of Higher Education in Colombia. The UNAD was founded with the purpose of designing and implementing academic programs according to the educational strategy of distance education, and thus responding to local, regional, national and international needs. The UNAD stood out for being a public institution with strong commitment towards the communities throughout the country, assisting by the end of 2016 to 65968 students, located in more than 900 municipalities. This student population covers a wide spectrum of ethnicities and communities in the country and can be seen as a qualification tool for 199 nationals living abroad and considering UNAD as one great possibility for their further professional development. The UNAD offers to its students bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees within numerous programs established at the faculties of Education Sciences, Health Sciences, Agricultural, Livestock and Environmental Sciences, Administrative, Accounting, Economics and Business Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Basic Sciences, Technology and Engineering, Law and Political Sciences. This academic offer is composed by 56 programs in Colombia and 12 programs managed from the Headquarters in the United States, UNAD Florida. One of the most significant events that made history for UNAD, is the recognition of Florida Headquarters as a division of UNAD Colombia by the United States Department of Treasury.
