The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka was founded in 1959 as the Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka and was incorporated by Act no. 24 of the parliament of SL in 1976. Subsequently,
the institute was elevated as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management by parliamentary
amendment Act no. 31 of 2018.

OUR OBJECTIVES
- To promote and develop the principles, techniques and practice of personnel engagement in Sri Lanka;
- To help in the acquisition and interchange of knowledge by reading of communications and discussions thereon, by establishing and maintaining libraries, publications on matters of professional interest and any such other means;
- To promote the study of personnel management and to encourage research into the best means and methods of applying the principles and techniques of personnel management in the interests of the industrial and economic development of Sri Lanka;
- To conduct examinations qualifying for membership of the Corporation to test the competence of persons engaged in personnel management and to grant certificates of competence;
- To assess the eligibility of candidates for admission to the various grades of membership;
- To regulate the professional activities and to assist in maintaining high standards in the general conduct of its members;
- To give the Government and other institutions both in the public and private sectors the facilities for conference with and
ascertaining the views of personnel managers as regards matters directly or indirectly affecting personnel management;
- To encourage and assist in the settlement of disputes between the Institute and its members by arbitration and to nominate arbitrators and umpires;
- To foster coordination with similar professional institutes in Sri Lanka and other countries in furthering the objects of the Corporation; and
- To do all such other acts and things as are incidental or conductive to the attainment of above objects or any of them.

We are a member of the Asia pacific federation of HRM associations and affiliated to the World Federation of People Management Associations. We are a professional member driven organization been the premier professional body empowered by the government to develop Human Resource Management practices, standards, policies and procedures in our country while driving the discipline of
Human Resource Management across corporate sector and state sector organizations as well as multiple industries in the country. Our membership comprises of Chartered Fellows, Chartered Members, Associate Members and Affiliate Members. The institute has a history of teaching professional HRM to students of HR who have benefited immensely over the years in developing and hone in the discipline of Human Resource Management. Most of our students are leading HR practitioners in the country and overseas. Our governance model is built on the parliamentary act, our by-laws and the duly constituted governing council which comprises of the President, Vice President, other office bearers and council members. The CIPM currently rolls out a Chartered Qualification in Human Resource Management which has been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development UK (CIPD UK).
We are also a CIPD accredited center in Sri Lanka. We have a student base of almost 9000 and a panel of resource personnel numbering almost 300. Our financials are in a very positive state and hence we are a viable organization. Our chartered qualification is a composite model comprising of the Advance Certificate in HRM, Professional Diploma in HRM, Chartered Intermediate and chartered final. It runs for 03 years with a research base dissertation. Students who complete the final stage are conferred the chartered qualification after 02 years of HRM experience in a recognized organization. At that point they become eligible for associate membership.
