Description

Known as MOSYNA in ancient times, Çal is located in the Aegean region of Turkey.  It is important districts of the region with its nature, history and productions.

There is an ancient city built in 200 AC in Çal during the reign of Emperor Hadrianus in the name of Apollo Lairbenos, the god of Anatolia. Çal is also known as the place where Dionysus, one of the 12 Olympos gods, lived. There is also the ancient Dionysosopolis where the theater is played for the first time in the world.

Çal has its own type of grape and Turkey's leading grape production and wine industry in the region as well as dairy products and processed gemstone such as marble and travertine.

Çal is home to the 846-year-old shepherd festival on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List with other festivals.
