Zhelino is a municipality in northwestern Republic of Macedonia. Zhelino is also the name of the village where the municipal seat is found. This municipality is part of the Polog Statistical Region. The geographical position of the Municipality includes teritory on both sides of the Vardar River with low-hills characteristics. According to the census of 2002, the number of inhabitants of the municipality is 24,390, with 99% Albanians and 1% Macedonians. The municipality of Zhelino was founded in October 1996, after the territorial division of the Republic of Macedonia. It lies in the western part of the country, in the Polog Statistical Region.The geographic position of the Municipality includes territory on both sides of the Vardar River with low-hills characteristics.The E-65 highway passes through this municipality. The municipality of Zhelino is bordered by the municipality of Jegunovce in the north, that of Saraj and Sopishte in the east, with the Municipality of Makedonski Brod in the south, in the southwest with the Municipality of Brvenica and in the west with the Municipality of Tetovo. The municipality's territory covers an area of 201km2 and is counted as an average size municipality in the Republic of Macedonia. This rural Municipality consists of 18 villages: Trebosh, Uzurmisht, Pallatic, Zhelino, Strimnic, Lower Leshnic,Upper Leshnic, Doberce, Grup?in, Cerovo, Rogle, Novosello, Kopacindoll, ?iflik, Merovo, Llerc, Sallarevo and Llukovic. According to the census of 2002, the number of inhabitants of the municipality is 24,390, with 99% Albanians and 1% Macedonians. Education in the Municipality of Zhelino is implemented in preschool and primary level, in five central and 12 peripheral schools. The total number of students currently is 1531 students. The main activity of the population is agriculture, with an agrarian area of 15,561 hectares, while the mountainous area is 9,046 hectares. Small and medium-sized businesses - construction, production and processing of agricultural products, hotel facilities also operate in this municipality. There are a total of 18 inhabited places (villages) in the Municipality of Zhelino. The Municipalities of the Republic of Macedonia are first-order administrative divisions. In February 2013, the Republic of Macedonia was reorganized into 80 municipalities (Macedonian: îïøòèíè; Albanian: Kumuna),10 of the municipalities constitute the City of Skopje (or Greater Skopje), a distinct unit of local self-government and the country's capital. The municipality of Zhelino is governed by the Mayor, the Municipal Council (19 counsellors elected for a 4 year term) the Municipal Secretary (manages and coordinates the administration), and 47 administrative staff.
